How do I get the latest build?
To get the latest build:
- IMPORTANT: If using the PRO Server version, ensure that the service is uninstalled fully from within the program's Service tab (this is IMPORTANT to ensure proper installation and upgrades). Just stopping the service manually from `services.msc` or similar is usually NOT sufficient. Failing to do so will cause major issues and interference with running the program reliably.
- Clear your browser cache (for gearmage.com) to ensure that the latest build downloads OR open an Incognito Browser window to download the latest
- Download links for setup files:
- Free version download links: Get the latest from our website here
- PRO version download links: Look for the latest license email from Gearmage that includes links to the PRO builds (either 32-bit or 64-bit) usually titled "Your Mail Attachment Downloader PRO license from GearMage!" and usually from the email: sales-license@gearmage.com
- Redownload the latest installer from the links in the email (again it's important to clear the browser cache before doing so).
- Optional: Uninstall the existing program from Control Panel
- Initiate the install by clicking on the exe inside the downloaded zip file from the step above.
Installing the latest build usually does not interfere with any settings and all settings are preserved. If you are concerned about this, you can try to backup before installation (see next section).
Installing the FREE version when you have the PRO version installed -- it can wipe PRO settings
If you install the FREE version when you have the PRO version installed, this will WIPE the global filter and some other settings clean. Ensure you Export your settings for the PRO version before installing the FREE version.
How do I backup settings before install?
Installing the latest build usually does not interfere with the settings and they are preserved. There are several options to backing up settings, see below:
- PRO versions: If you want to backup the settings before hand, you can use the Export/Import tab in the PRO versions to do so BEFORE you do the install.
- Manual backup: In the free version or if you want to manually do a backup, you can also just navigate to the Settings folder (Logs tab -> Client Settings button opens this up) and copy it to a separate folder of your preference.
- Automatic backup: Backups of settings are also placed automatically in the parent folder of the settings under a folder called MAD_BACKUP (usually under "%Appdata%\MAD_BACKUP" folder). You can use the Export/Import tab (in PRO versions) to import these back OR to manually restore, rename the extension of the backup file from ".mdz" to ".zip" and after unzipping them replace the Settings folder with it's contents.
Why is upgrading to the latest build important?
We constantly release new releases (called builds) even if the version is the same (eg. v3.3). We only update the version number on major feature releases.
Issues with Outlook, Office 365 or Gmail connectivity or authentication?
The latest build (v3.3 is the same but build number is newer, see below) fixes incompatibilities with connecting and authenticating to Outlook, O365 and Google's gmail. Please make sure you uninstall the service first if you have the PRO Server version before installing the latest build. You may also need to re-configure your email account by revisiting settings and changing the host/port for IMAP, SMTP. Test the connection before saving. In some cases you may have to update the password, try a different password or the hostname for IMAP and SMTP for Outlook (
see here). As a last resort you can delete the account settings and then recreate it from scratch to rule out any account setting specific issue.
Current latest build
For both Free and PRO, we try to keep the builds and versions the same. So you can check the latest build version number by checking our website for the Free version at: https://gearmage.com/maildownloader.html
Latest current PRO Client and PRO Server builds are: 3.3.1029
How do I find out which build I am on?
1. The easiest way is to go to the Logs tab on newer builds. You should see the full version at the very top of the Logs panel.
2. For older builds, you can hover the mouse cursor over the main title text (black background titled "Mail Attachment Downloader") and you should see a popup similar to the below
My service isn't stopping or uninstalling properly...
PRO Server: Uninstall the service the normal way...
Uninstall the service by going to the service tab in the program and then clicking on the uninstall button. Then quit the program. It may be preferable to uninstall the program at this point from the control panel. None of your settings will be lost when doing so.
If that doesn't work -- an alternative to the above: Uninstall manually
If you are having trouble uninstalling the service from within the program you can use this process to manually uninstall the running service. The process below will help shutdown the service via an alternate means (without needing to run the program).
- Quit the program (or all instances of it) if you are running it.
- From services.msc stop the MailAttachmentDownloaderService if its running
- Delete the service in services.msc or alternatively at a command prompt (run as admin), run "sc delete MailAttachmentDownloaderService" to remove the service
- Uninstall the app using Control Panel (settings / config are not removed, they stay intact)
